That's pretty cool. In my senior year in college my lab partner and I were required to design and build a solid-state stereo pre-amp and power amplifier that met RIAA standards for flatness within 1 dB from 20-20K Hz. They had a turntable and speakers to hook it to at the end of the project and it sounded great. That's a fond memory!Originally Posted by James Brown
Actually I know quite a bit about electronics, given that I have an electrical engineering undergraduate degree and several of my patent clients are engineering firms. Also, my other hobby is audio. I have built many analog stereo components. Point to point wiring and/or circuit boards. Admittedly, some of the circuits are old (as in 1930's old) but it is a lot of fun. These old analog circuits are where chokes and capacitors are king!
I know one thing for sure - I don't know as much about electronics as the inventors I work with, and I don't know as much as James or Brian! There is no substitute for a career when it comes to depth of knowledge.

As far as hobbies go, I've designed and build a number of telescope drives - that was a lot of fun too. For work I've been doing mostly RF stuff for the Navy.
