How could anyone support this guy (besides White Supremists/Nazi's)?

Posted By Gerald Miller

I can see why there's really not civil discussion here. Here's the typical dialog:

Left: The Earth is round.

Right: You are delusional. The Earth is flat.

Left: But, what evidence or argument do you have otherwise?

Right: You are an idiot. Everyone knows the Earth is flat. Besides, I read so on the internet, so it must be true. Go outside and look. It looks flat and you are too stupid to realize it?

Left: Really, give me one thing that proves that it's flat?

Right. I told you to go look. You are a F****ING MORON. THE EARTH IS FLAT. PERIOD.

With conversations like that, it's no wonder hardly anyone bothers to post here. It's not possible to have a civil conversation on the merits. I could easily also say what I think of your intellect in such a crude manner, but it doesn't take anyone to figure out who has the higher intellect when one side can only insult the other with crude and obscene language.

So why does anyone here even bother to post? When the only response you get more or less is that your are delusional, an idiot, a moron (and a f****ing one at that), which seems to be the typical response here particularly when confronted with something like the topic of this post that is hard to defend, it seems a waste of time to try to have any discussion to see if we can learn why each of us may share different opinions.

I mean, if you think Steve King is a great guy, why not say why, rather than call me names you learned in 6th grade?

Hearing one side, however, pretty much closes you mind to anything else that may have merit and any valid point that should be considered. Closing yourself off to one point of view-now that's moronic.

That's probably why, other than the few posts where I've recently stirred up the pot here, the only people talking here are people talking to themselves with the same viewpoint or not talking at all. No one really enjoys having a discussion that invariably ends with someone with an opposing view always returning to his grade school level response, even if that's the highest mental level in which that person may possess.

I am fairly certain the fact that I was once married to a black woman confirms I am not a white supremacist and I damn sure am not a Nazi as you implied with your offensive and emotional outburst of a topic title.

As my past history of posting here  will confirm I spoke quite often and loudly about my lack of support for Trump confirms I am not a Trump fan..... I generally spoke against him until he started delivering on his promises. I am a fan of what he is accomplishing for the country.....It is hilarious that he has been in the public eye for 30+ years and it was NEVER even implied he was racist until he became President. I dont appreciate quite a bit of what he says, I detest his bragging....but he got my respect with his accomplishments.....

I will say by your choice of topic title you and he share some traits......congratulations, welcome to the asshole of a month club.....So you go right ahead with your ridiculousness, you wont have to worry about me paying any attention to it whatsoever lol
Well, how you can judge whether the Topic title is topical by not reading the content is beyond me. How you come to the conclusion I thought YOU were a racist is beyond me-or, wait-unless you think Rep. King and his statements that were clearly based on race is just fine and dandy (two weeks ago, he endorsed Faith Goldy, who has previously recited the 14-word manifesto used by neo-Nazis, in her race for Toronto mayor. And he retweeted an anti-immigration message from a prominent Nazi sympathizer who has described himself as an admirer of Hitler). What a guy to support.

Had you actually read the article (and done any in depth research about Rep. King) you may have learned that even for most Republicans, he's too much. He is unabashedly a racist and aligns himself with hate groups run by white supremacists.

If the topic subject offended you, then you must align yourself the same, since pretty much the question was, how could anyone but a white supremist or nazi support him? I'd really like to know the answer. Please enlighten me.

As for Trump, the only thing I can see he's accomplished is dividing the country with his rhetoric and emboldened right wing extremists. That about it. He's not a racist, though, that much I agree. He just pretends to be to get the base pumped up, which is pretty much 99.9% white.

I would be interested to know exactly what he's accomplished in your opinion? Opening up more land so it can be fracked to death? Easing pollution requirements for the oil industry? Taking away pre-existing conditions by gutting the ACA? Yeah, I'd guess you'd be ok with all of those.

But then again, you're not paying attention. It seems to me, to much of anything.

He'd probably need an electron microscope to find them.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I apologize for that remark.

Greg, can you please explain why you found it offensive? I know you may think it obvious, but it is not to me. Rep. King caters to white supremacists and Nazi sympathizers, so it seemed topical to me.

It was not intended to offend.

Thanks for your honesty. I also have to admit I purposely used those terms to get a response and didn't need to be quite so abrasive.

While expressing what we think of each other's mental processes of those that we may not agree with us may give us some personal enjoyment, it does not really don't address the issues at hand. I, for one, will no longer do so, even if it is in response to others that do.

Richard and I have had a good off record discussion, and I think both of us will try to stick to the issues and not make personal snide remarks designed to inflame each other rather than discuss the merits or lack thereof about the issues in our posts. With that understanding, I will rejoin and respond to his posts. I respect his position and enjoy his passion, even if I don't agree with him on most issues. At least he HAS an opinion.

That's the purpose of these forums. If we can respect each other's opinion, while we may not agree with it, then we maybe we can understand the reasoning behind those differences, and maybe even agree on those issues that we share and perhaps even work together for a solution where we don't.

But the name calling and personal insult don't encourage that. There are so few here that actually will post here, knowing the personal attack that they can expect to follow. It seems a pretty lonely place. Maybe if we can be civil to one another, that will change, and others will join in. Otherwise, it's pretty much two guys and a few others watching.

I love this country, and the people that live here including those folks who think Trump is the answer to their prayers. I don't think all Trump supporter's are delusional or racists. At the same time, I am very concerned with the state of things and fear things will get worse. Opening the door to having a civil conversation rather than a confrontation one may be a small step to avoid that outcome.

As for idiots in Congress, I think there are more than enough to go around on both sides.

My prediction, Cruz by 3 points.

Or not.

Beto is betting looking though. Might win if women get out and vote.

Trump Russia: Bungled plot emerges to smear Robert Mueller

Posted By Gerald Miller

People that spread false rumors and conspiracy theories are a despicable lot, as are the people who believe them.

Now, where was Obama's birth certificate? I can't remember...lol.

Birthright Citizenship

Personally, I think the 14th Amendment is pretty clear, and if Trump actually were to use an executive order in the manner he threatens, I would be really upset and disappointed.  For starters, executive orders should only be used for minor administrative matters, as any alleged conservative ought to know.  Also, the plain language of the 14th Amendment is pretty darned plain, as any conservative ought to know.  I'm fully aware of the tortured counter-interpretation of the 14th Amendment.  I'm not sure that anyone who subscribes to those arguments ought to be calling himself an originalist.

I think Trump, at night when it is just he and his iPhone, probably does believe he can do anything he wants with an executive order.  I also think that he has listened to his advisers and has no intention of actually issuing this particular executive order.  So, I think he is just spinning up the more rabid base and trolling the media; again.  Time will tell.

* (a simple correction will suffice if this is not a fair characterization.  I just skimmed through about 10 threads.)
No, and likely neither does he, but it makes a good mid-term campaign promise and gets headlines in the news. When the leaders of the GOP say he can't, that's a pretty good indicator it's just more BS to reach out and pump up his base. He really doesn't want to suffer a loss.

I got to give it to him-he doesn't like to lose and will do or say anything to keep from doing so if he thinks it would help avoid that result.

Oh, sorry, didn't know you meant our newest member of the bench.

Wait-do I feel the same with those stories because they are conspiracy theories? Oh, ok.

No, I don't because they are first person accounts-not some theory that has no personal witness to the event. I would feel the same if they are only based on conjecture or rumor, though.
