This is the same image as previous, but with colour added by combining the H-alpha image with the colour data from a DSLR image taken with the same telescope.

Hi Jim,

You must eat a lot more than I do. (though judging by my waistline I doubt it! cwy ) I complain when my grocery bill reaching $50 for the week! It does help at the moment that the vegie garden has been producing in abundance. The neighbours have been very happy!

It was an interesting result, and yes, the seat will be voted on again in November. What will be even more interesting will be the senate election. Will Lisa Murkowski be able to defeat Trump-endorsed Kelly Tshibaka.

One republican (Tom Cotton R-Ak) has already posted on Twitter that "Ranked-choice voting is a scam to rig elections" and "a convoluted process and ballot exhaustion—which disenfranchises voters".

Australia has been using preferential voting (What aussies call ranked choice) for over 100 years and it has never been a problem and it has never been claimed that it disenfranchises voters. Actually it serves to support 3rd-party candidates and avoids people wasting their vote by voting for someone who has no chance of winning.

For the senate, democratic party to win Pennsylvania and lose Nevada, so remain at 50-50.

for the house of reps, repubs to gain 13 seats.

Sorry to hear the news. Although I never had any PM's with Mel, it is sad to see someone that young die. (He was the same age as me!)

One thing that concerns me, we are all getting on in years, and where are the young amateur astronomers? Most clubs, star parties, and conferences that I have attended have almost totally been occupied by grey hair! :-(

Enjoy the sky and your family while you can. One day it will be too late.

NZ Prime Minister has been caught on hot mike calling the leader of the opposition ACT party, Mr Seymour, "an arrogant prick" during question time.

What I find most interesting are the responses.

PM Ardern apologised and Mr Seymour accepted the apology.

Mr Seymour said that in her text, Ms Ardern wrote that she "apologised, she shouldn't have made the comments, and that, as her mum said, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it."

Mr Seymour, who said he admired some of Ms Ardern's political skills immensely, said he had written back to Ms Ardern thanking her for the apology and wishing her a very merry Christmas.


Maybe the Kiwis could teach the US a thing or two about how politicians should behave!

The 2024 eclipse passes right over my house. However considering the Indiana weather I plan to head south to Texas. I hope to use the October annular eclipse as a trial run.

Looking to the future, I see Australia has 4 totals between 2028 and 2038. Since I hope to be back home well before then will see how many of then I can see.  Anyone who wants to come over is welcome. (just leave your guns behind! smile)

You would be welcome.  Can also do some observing under mag 7.0+ skies. If you have never seen the Sagittarius Milky Way overhead is really dark skies you are missing out. silly
