Jupiter Observation (April 23, 2005)

Another great sketch Carlos,I think Sol is right during this year Jupiter's festoons seem more subdued and seem to leak out of dark barges in the neb, I wonder if as time goes by the barges will get lighter and the festoons become more pronounced as more material flows into the E.Z.Again great sketch.

Jupiter May 3, 2005

Last night I was out looking with my 6" achro and watched the transit of Io,it was so cool, the shadow was about 40min. behind the disk, the shadow was like a dark spot drilled into Jupiter vary dark and well defined, Io was easy to see against the Neb,much easier than when it transits the EZ, the red barge in the neb was also very cool, there was a notch or semibrake in the neb and blue festoons flowing from around the barge very cool, just like a minature grs, that was my first thought when observing it, i made a sketch, I'll post it soon.Jupiter is really cool and my favorite thing to watch in real time in the sky.

July New Moon Spotting Contest

I also saw the crescent moon at 8:43 C.D.T. from the Chicago suburbs, here is a quick photo taken with a fuji 3.2 handheld to my Cr-150 6" achro, surely Chicago can't be the new moon spotting capital of the world!

Great sketch Carlos, it looks likewe are in for a real treat with this Mars opposition season as long as a big dust storm doesn't happen.Glad to see your back sketching. It will be great to see how Mars has changed since the last opposition.
