Emotional Weekend Victories

I was off backpacking with a boy scout group this weekend. We had a great time, and did not miss being away from the media one bit.

However... I was very pleased this morning to see that Floyd won the Tour de France in what has to be one of the greatest comebacks ever, and that a very emotional Tiger handily won the British Open.

These are good human victories.

The American Falls from Canada. (Niagara NY/Ontario) Canon 300D .3 sec exposure (camera placed on a stone pillar.... you can bet I wished I had a tripod when Luna started to rise at dusk! sad )

Tamron 28-300 mm zoom at a pretty fair amount of zoom.

Color image balanced (for my laptop) and grey-scaled with CS2.

Hi all:

Here is M27 taken with a TEC APO 140, Starlight Express SXV-H9, G-11 mount and Astrodon filters. The nebula itself is Ha (R) and OIII (GB). The background stars are regular LRGB. I merged the images using Photoshop's layers functionality. It seemed to work pretty well.

2.5 hours each of Ha and OIII, (30 minute subs) About 1.5 hours total for LRGB.

What Now?

Five minutes ago I'm standing on the little 8x8' deck I have in the yard getting set up for a much anticipated imaging run this evening. Everything is going fine, the scope and camera are set up, I've calibrated my guider and I'm getting ready for the first focus. (I am planning on imaging M57 tonight...) It's that sort of almost dark, late dusk time of the night.

Well, rustle-rustle through the tall grass, up from the ravine... here comes Mr. Skunk, moving fast! He dives right under my little viewing platform, my heart stops, and there he is. shocked

What do I do now? I gotta go finish my set up. Maybe he'll move on, or leave me alone if I do likewise. Hopefully...

Here is an image of the Eagle Nebula I took September 25. It is basically an Ha-OIII-OIII image for RGB. I tried to work in regular RGB for the stars, but the star colors are not that dramatic. 1.5 hours of data each for Ha and OIII, 30 minute subs.

Maxim DL for acquisition
Photoshop CS for processing.

Cocoon - IC 5146

Here is the Cocoon Nebula taken September 26.

It is a (L+Ha),(Ha+R),G,B image. 2.5 Hr. Ha (30 minute subs). 55 min. LRGB with the L binned 1x1 and the rest 2x2.

I appreciate any comments or critique!

p.s. this jpeg is also much less saturated looking when I view it on line, as opposed to when I open the compressed, posted image in Photoshop. Why is that? I am not comparing the jpeg to the original 16 bit image by the way. I would think the compressed images would look the same, whichever program opens them, but they really don't. :S
