Glued secondary ?

Posted By Steve Sands

I used to see this alot when the Coulter 13" dobs were all the rage. We would take piano wire or a sharp single-edged razor blade and cut through the mounting tape between the secondary and holder. Then we'd remount the secondary with silicon, after cleaning up the tape and carefully recentering. The mirror is not allowed to adjust to the temperature without warping when it is fastened down with tape. That tape is indeed amazing when it comes to longivity! I guess that is a GOOD thing since you don't want the secondary crashing into your primary (I've seen that happen, also!).

Finally a sunspot

Posted By Steve Sands

Wow, very nice Alex! I would go out and take a look, but that would mean we would actually have to be able to SEE the sun! :C Please keep some of that clear sky around for my visit! I had my 60mm Lunt double stack out last week and there was some excellent activity for a change!

true or false?

Posted By Steve Sands

False! Urban legend! 8) I have used my SM90 for 5+ years and it is just as good today as it was when it came out of the box (and it has seen many, many, many hours of use). Also, I know of many others with "aged" Coronados who have nary a problem. Where did this "information" come from??

sales

Posted By Steve Sands

The best thing to do at this point is to move on and sell it to another interested party. The feedback system on AM can't be used for this purpose because a transaction did not take place. You aren't out anything and perhaps the original individual had a personal situation occur that we don't know about. I always give folks the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps he just changed his mind and doesn't have the decency to tell you. Who knows? I have had this happen to me on occasion and it isn't worth the effort and concern to dwell on it. :S

Flimsy hand held controller

Posted By Steve Sands

I own and use both the G11 and G8 and had nary a problem with the hand controller after literally hundreds of hours of operation, so I am quite puzzled by this assessment. It is light weight and puts up with a lot of abuse. You may just want to try using it for a while and see how it goes. I'm betting it will do the job for you without failure.

Canon to Coronado PST

Posted By Steve Sands

Jay,

You are either going to have to barlow your eyepiece (which inherently gives you magnification, perhaps unwanted) or obtain a new machined eyepiece holder which is shorter. There is a company around somewhere that was offering these. I will try to look them up. This is indeed a problem with the PST due to where the focal point sits. There may be others out there that have more solutions for you.

Need to change a rating that I gave someone.

Posted By Steve Sands

The replies you have received are indeed correct. Once a rating is posted it can not be altered in any way. It can only be deleted. If the ad is responded to again (either you or the other party, depending on whose ad it is) another rating ticket will be generated for both of you to use.

If you want to delete your rating, go to Account Menu on the left side of your screen, then Ratings and finally Ratings I Have Given. There is a DELETE icon next to each rating you have posted. Find the one in question and delete it.

Telrad knobs...

Posted By Steve Sands

Yet another great solution for those pesky microscopic Telrad knobs! I use rubber grommets. 1/4" ID 9/16" OD 1/4" thick. They slide on easily and hold firmly. For 30 cents it works great for my big fingers!
