We live in a bubble, but they think Trump will easily coast to victory in 2020. Never mind that he's consistently -10% in job approval and has never been over 50%. Never mind that Trump polls behind each of the top Democratic candidates even in red states like Texas. Never mind that a plurality of the country wants Trump impeached and removed from office, and a majority wants Trump impeached and thinks that he deserves it. Never mind that the only reason he won in 2016 is that he got lucky and managed to thread the needle in the electoral college. Never mind that losing the popular vote again, which he will almost surely do, and winning the electoral college again is almost certainly not possible. You never know, though, Trump could win again, but it's highly unlikely. He has a good economy, but he's already gotten all the additional advantages out of that he can. There is little indication that he has any headroom left to improve his position since he can't seem to quit offending every group of independent voters on the planet. He's juiced the economy so much for his political advantage, that there is no space left to expand. But yeah, we live in a bubble.

Seriously though Greg, surely you have to agree that it is highly unusual for an incumbent President to face so much opposition inside his party. This situation is not a position of strength; it is a position of weakness. The opposition is doing much more than just writing op-eds, by the way. They are actively working on projects whose purpose is to change opinions and hold Trump accountable at the ballot box for his violations of oath to the Constitution and his betrayal of public trust. This effort against a sitting President is not a good situation for re-election.

Still, threading the electoral college needle while losing the popular vote is not a winning strategy in Presidential politics. What's the old saying? Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then?
