Do you agree with a lot of John Blake's writings? I have read some of his articles. If you agree with much of what he writes I understand more of your thinking.Originally Posted by Rod Kaufman
How true. It's quite likely our wingnuts on the forum know people who are dressed up like wannabe militias who regularly dress up in camo and go up into the backwoods of Georgia to blast away with their military-style weapons.
Take this lead story on CNN the other week: "There's nothing more frightening in America today than an angry White man". It pretty much sums it up:

I am seeing estimates of 125,000 to 135,000 left. Castro did like to brag how productive Cubans were. He could have prevented nonproductive people in prisons and mental institutions from leaving but why? This did save money and reduce the number of people in this condition. I've seen 1,500 est. for mentally and physically disabled with a significant number of sex workers, queer and transgender being good targets for Castro.Originally Posted by Jim Moscheck
It's funny, Mel. I was actually in Key West during the Mariana Boat Lift in 1980. I was on spring break with my roommates and we were there for three days of the boatlift. I was studying photography and took a lot of pictures of people around the the staging grounds taking the boat people from Key West upstate in school busses for processing. I saw whole families, lots of young kids, and many, many old folks so happy to be out of Cuba and in the USA. If they were hardened criminals and crazy people I sure couldn't tell. Wish I could post a few shots, but they are from 41 years ago and I never had the slides or negatives converted over to digital. There was one older couple in particular that was waiting to be picked up by their son who had defected a few years earlier. They didn't know any English and my Spanish was bad, but they were the nicest people who were very gracious and humble. Maybe all of the bad folks ended up on another key?

So the thousands(20,000?)of hard cases that were dumped locally are not that big of a deal? Maybe you were not living there.Originally Posted by James Lacey
It certainly sounds like a convenient bullshit story, but even if it is true, it doesn't matter. It's a hasty generalization that seeks to demonize all refugees. What about the tens of thousands of boat-lift refugees who did not commit violent crimes? What about the undoubtedly thousands of US citizens who did commit violent crimes in the same period? It's like saying, "My best friend bought a Honda, and it was in the shop all the time, so all Honda's are bad."

Then why didn't the dems quickly put a stop to this? They have not came close to trying.Originally Posted by James Lacey
It's not double-talk. It is possible to have a well-managed border that deflects illegal immigration that still treats people humanely and fairly. That is what most Democrats favor, not the bellicose and demeaning language and policies of the Trump era.
