A Light Moment

I have to tell you that here,

the President notched a great moment of humor.

Full Disclosure: I've read then Senator Obama's Audacity of Hope. Although I noted a boatload of disagreements with him in the margins (and some here), I used this book and later exposures to speeches and other talks by the President to classify him as a good man, at least by mortal standards, just not a good president in the balance. Here is couple of links as the President works through his last year in office, showing another light moment - in a manner of speaking....

I think most of them are good people. Occasionally we get a sexual harasser and crook! grin

Apple and the court order and the FBI

What are peoples feelings on Apple refusing the court order? I am slightly leaning towards supporting Apple but I would like to hear other peoples opinions.

Doug Grebe

I favor Apple because of the behavior of the government after 9/11. They were engaged in domestic spying and were gathering everyone's phones records without court orders. The government should not have a right to any of my information since I am not a suspect in a crime and they should not be able to compel any company to write software to crack their own devices.

Is anyone going to mention the Michigan surprise?

Posted By Patrick Keafer

Jim,

The thing is Hillary probably still got more delegates in Michigan because of that undemocratic super-delegate thing they have. The fix really is in.

So Bernie's "win" really isn't that consequential unless he decides to start bringing up the email and trustworthiness issues she has and/or she gets indicted, which is unlikely.

Who Wall Street DOESN'T Want For President

No surprises here, considering his so-called economic plan would be a disaster for the country:

I'm no fan of Trump's, but should we really be looking to please Wall Street?

Lyin' Ted Destroyed the Republican Party

Posted By Patrick Keafer

Russ,

I don't really blame Ted Cruz for this. As Mark said, he was simply an opportunist. I do blame the tea party and talk radio though. They were so anxious to not compromise with Democrats, they forgot to cooperate with non tea party Republicans. When they sensed their power was slipping within the party they began to attack party leaders, thereby creating this rift. Way to go antiestablishment kooks. Now you have the ultimate non establishment candidate in Trump. Congratulations!

Early polling showing, once again, that I don't know anything.

Jim

"In order to estimate the results of a general election match-up, Quinnipiac has to estimate the composition of the general electorate. In November 2012, 79 percent of the electorate in Ohio was white — but Quinnipiac's polling sample is 83 percent white in the state. In Florida, Quinnipiac's sample is two points whiter than in 2012; in Pennsylvania, it's three points whiter. And if the sample is more white, that almost necessarily means that it's less non-white."

Trump Calls Reporter "Sleaze"

Posted By Patrick Keafer

Darian Rachal said:

Whether one likes Trump or not, I like the fact that he has the courage to confront the leftist vermin in the media and characterize them correctly. Unfortunately, no other politicians seem to be willing to do this to the extent that he does.

His statement comes at about the 20 second mark. The reporter attempts to ask why he is a sleaze, Trump interrupts him, calls him a sleaze again, then walks away from the mike. It's just nice to know that there are some people who do not have qualms about showing how much they detest the media. smile

I disagree. I fail to see anything exemplary in that "exchange". He called the reporter a sleaze, then stepped away from the mic and gave it to a veteran, thus deflecting the follow up from the reporter. Republican's have been calling out the media for decades now, its just we've been calling them out with civility and maturity, as befits a world leader. We have no way of knowing whether the reporter was sleazy or just plain incorrect.

Look, the media has about a 10% approval rate. Does he really need to call out their legitimacy? To me it makes him look very small.

BREXIT

Posted By Patrick Keafer

Rod Kaufman said:

The Brits just shot themselves in the foot by voting to leave the european union. The pound is at its lowest level since 1985. The exit is taking the world markets down the toilet, too.
So, why did the Brits vote to leave?
Answer: Migrant immigration! In the union, migrants freely migrate across Britain and any other country in the european union:
http://money.cnn.com/2016/06/23/investing/eu-referendum-markets/index.html?iid=hp-stack-dom
So, the migrants screwed everybody, one way or another. And those rich Arab countries that wouldn't take them in? Well, they're sitting pretty...

The ramifications of Brexit are overblown IMO. Wall Street hates it because they hate uncertainty and this uncertainty will disappear in the two year period it will take for the process to run its course. While a lower pound does make things more expensive, it also makes their exports more attractive. Britain will be fine. This is a big F-U to the big banks and the Euro plutocrats who screamed bloody murder that the world would end.

You are right that this is in large part about immigration. The similarities to the issues that the Trump campaign won the primary on are quite striking. It is a shame Trump is the leader of the movement though. He will not be able to effectively communicate the concerns of the voters backing him and he's too deeply flawed to be a winner.
