Mom's day camera vs. crusty Nikon 995

Posted By Rex Cox

Greg, I purchased a Canon A640 (I think) last year, and it is a fantastic point-and-shoot camera. It's a 10 megapixel, which is probably overkill for such a camera, but I am extremely pleased with the build, picture quality, and ease of use the camera offers. I especially like the program mode.

I think your wife will like the camera you got for her just fine.

I agree with Dan and Pete. Oklahoma does have a few good areas for observing, especially in the Black Mesa/Kenton area. I go to Okie-Tex every year and have a blast. In fact, I need to join the OKC astronomy club so I can take advantage of their members-only spring observing trip to Black Mesa.

Dan, my folks have a farm north of Beggs where I do a lot of observing. Are you in the area?

Off the top of my head, I would say Marina Sirtis, who played counselor Troy on Star Trek: the Next Generation. I'da got slapped if she could have read my thoughts. wink

That might be a good birthday gift for my sister. She got a Maltese puppy earlier this year. I think he's a cross between a mop and a tornado.

What exactly does it do? I don't see any difference whether it's checked or unchecked; I have to login again and again.

How are your settings in Tools, Internet Options, Privacy set? You may have to adjust them down a bit to get it to work.

how to cut laminate?

Posted By Rex Cox

Marcin Klapczynski said:

I tried to cut Ebony Star laminate yesterday using a pair of sheet-metal scissors. It started cracking and crumbeling, causing small flakes of the outer layer to fall off. Is there a way to get a nice, clean cut?

Also would you glue the laminate to an unstained or already stained wood? Is a contact cement good for this purpose?
Thanks

I use my table saw or radial arm saw and a fine tooth blade made for such materials. It gives me very nice smooth edges.

Telrad to be installed on next Hubble Servicing Mi

The Telrad will be used to help align the replacement Fine Guidance Sensor after it is installed.
Telrads are often used on professional telescopes, such as the two units installed on the Mt Wilson Hooker 100 inch.
Now one goes on the ultimate telescope....

I wonder what Uncle Sam pays for a Telrad, and how may contracting specialists it takes to procure one? $$$$$$

which ones perform best in your opinion? If I were you, I'd stick them in a scope and decide which ones gave me the better views.
