I asked Coronado that same question many months ago. They said that it really does not matter but reccommend that it be attached as close to the lens as possible.

I would unscrew the dew shield and attacht the plate right to the lens cell and view without the dew sheild.

I do it with my FC-60, and the AP 155 and even my FSQ
It does not look as nice but works perfectly

Butt surely you jest about the United States. He not only is a joke throughout the world, due to his policies, but the shear fact that he was put into office and did not win the popular vote. In fact Gore had more of the popular vote in the last election, compared to President Kennedy when he had in his "landslide" victory over Nixon at the time.

The Unites States is the only "Free" Country that can have a President that the general public did not vote into office.
If you consider the USA a Democracy then the President, the most powerful position here is won by the person with the least amount of votes!!!
That is ridiculous.

A President that is actully pushed into office by Big Business.

President George W ( for washed up) Bush, will be one of the few Presidents in history to be in the record books as a "snake in he grass"

All very good questions about a second story observartory. I am just about finished with mine now, and I went with the roll off roof. Only because I like the feeling of being outside, if I want to use binoculars I can on another section of the sky, My wife can use another scope or binoculars when I am at the main scope. And if you like to slew all over the sky then you will have to be moving the dome all the time too.
From what I found is that if you are going to be doing alot of Photography the dome is great, if you are in a very very cold climate the dome would help on those nights too.
Everyones needs are different.

As far as cost
you can be all over the board on this one
Depends on what you want to mount in there, and if your roof is motorized, are you going to temp control it at all so when the roof is closed you can work in there?

Help Florida Building Code Nightmare!

Building codes in Florida go by county not by the whole State from what I found out when I built my observatory
And I did build a roll off roof that is suppose to withstand more than a 130mph wind for 5 seconds, just because I wanted the re-enforced structure
Where are you located?
I am in Florida and from what you are saying I have not run into, but then again mine was started before March, 2002

The storms this time of year are really terrible for viewing though
Remember that on the AP Bacron depending on where you place it in relation to the diagonal and if you use the extension or not will determin the magnigication for you

Have you ever tried the AP binoviewer on this?
Not sure if you want to but if you do and you are at Chiefland walk on by I can loan you mine for a few hours for you to try.

I know for sure that there will be a Pronto, SM/40, BF10 though and a pair of Celestron Binoviewers with this set-up

If you are there you can take a view and see, the views are very nice

I personally used a 3/4" wall steel pipe had a bottom plate welded to it. Then filled the pipe up with play sand.
I think that the pipe was 9' long if my memory is right. Took about 450lbs of sand in it
