Hi All, I kinda followed the spaceweather article and got this shot of a paper thin Venus today. It looks like a clipped toe nail on a blue sky. I made an extra long dew shield to block the sun light but that might only work for a day or two longer. As I watched Venus in the camera view finder I noticed it was moving in RA in only a few minutes. During this part of a Venus apparition I need a Venus mode on my drive corrector to speed it up. 32 frames through a 70mm refractor with a 3x barlow, taken with a Canon XTi at 100asa. Stacked in RS6 and processed in PS7.

Venus -3 days

Hi, It rained for the last 2 days but finally cleared up enough for me to snag Venus maybe for the last time in the eveining sky this year... I fought gusty winds and cirrus clouds to get this best of 22 out of 44 images. I built a dew shield/sun shade out of poster board so it doubled the length of the whole telescope and cut down on the glare. I used a televue 3x barlow with a 70mm f/8 refractor and a Canon XTi @ 100asa. The times were 1/200 sec. Taken at approx 18:15 UT abd about 5 degrees from the Sun and the phase is around .45%. The bits and blobs are microscopic dust in focal plane that I can't get rid of and the Cottonwood trees are making the skies look like a blizzard.

Another Venus at -2 days

Hi again, I think this will be my final go at imaging Venus's thin cresent. A lot of glare made it tough to find and photograph. I probably need a better setup for this in the future but I'm happy with my results. 62 out of 156 frames.

Venus Annulus!

Hi, I tried to get it and I did I think. I put an extension tube in my 3 x barlow to try and darken the sky down as much as possible and increased my exposure from 1/200 down to 1/80 and took the best 22 out of 56 frames...then stretched the heck out of it. My eyes have been playing tricks on my about seeing it in my images and in the eyepiece but 99% sure I have it. Definitely 1 more day will do it though.

Venus - 1 day 3 hrs

Hi again, I know its not pretty but I had my arse kicked today getting this image. I spent 3 hrs imaging and hardly got anything that registax will even work with. Super Cottonwood fuzzies made finding the planet harder than ever and the seeing was the worst. There was very little contrast to use to focus but when the sun went under a cloud I had a second to nail it and lock it down. On the bright side...between using the mask and cleaning the front glass, looking at the planet through an EP was far easier today than the last few days or so even without a dew shield. Clean optics are a must for this more than shielded light. Here is my very humble offering of Venus and her extended cusps taken at approx 18:30UT. The best 7 frames out of 65 using a 70mm refractor and a 3x barlow and extender, Canon XTi @ 100asa.

Venus post transit 3.5 days

Hi All, I can say that Venus safely made it through the transit and is just as bright on the other side. I used a 70mm refractor and a 1.8x barlow with an apature stop of 55mm to reduce glare. best 356 frames or so out of 1500 taken with my Orion Solar System Imager @ 10 frames per second.

Hi All, Here is my first light image with my new (to me) refractor. I only got 23 shots to stack as the little ones were buggin' me to look through it. 23 frames with a 102mm refractor and a 1.8x barlow. Stacked in RS6 and processed in PS7.

Hi All, Here is my offering of the Lagoon Nebula taken with a Meade 16" @ f/6.3. (7 X 5min) total time with a modded Canon XTi. Stacked in DS and processed in PS7. Auto guider is DOA so it was manually guided. Image taken at the Veen observatory.
