305F3.8 Honders first image

Posted By Anthony Ayiomamitis

Rolando,

Great first light shot. Looks flat to me from edge to edge. grin

With Cygnus slowly getting into prime position, the Veil Complex and/or the North American nebula and/or the Pelican nebula are screaming "me too for your Honders". wink

Attaching Losmandy Dovetail to Mewlon 210 base ?

Posted By Anthony Ayiomamitis

Tony,

I was in precisely the same predicament as yourself a number of months ago.

I picked up a SOCAL universal dovetail plate and which works like a charm. Please note that the screws on the existing Tak plate will not work and you will need something around 14mm in length with hexagonal heads.

nearly-new GTs available

It's f/6.3 and has the fancy tube that makes it hard to resist buying one, other than that, probably not much difference visible at the eyepiece. Much smaller and lighter than the 140.

It looks like the premium over list price has finally dropped below $1,000, maybe this will help shorten the wait list.

Fingers crossed!

Rolando,

That is one awesome and sweet result. Any info on the subs and total data time?

NGC 891 - Test with Mewlon 210

Posted By Anthony Ayiomamitis

PS. If one were to look to piggyback a telescope for guiding, how would this be best accomplished?

I was doing some work with a couple of planetaries in Cepheus last week and the luminance images were most impressive at an image scale of 0.56"/pixel. However, everything fell apart when I tried guiding for the RGB subs. I have come across this problem with other test sessions and it is obvious that I must mount a piggyback scope for guiding.

NGC7331

Rolando,

This is a very impressive image with exquisite detail.

However, if you look carefully at the stars, you will some sort of "artifact" on the left side and it is something especially easy to spot on the bright(er) stars. Is it a bad sub which got thrown into the mix or something else?

What other targets did you shoot? I would love to see NGC 891 in And.

Palomar 1

Posted By Anthony Ayiomamitis

Chris,

Don't feel too bad since you have company. I have been working on the 15 Palomar globulars the past few weeks: http://www.perseus.gr/Astro-DSO-Cluster-Palomar.htm ... they certainly require good focal length and I will revisit them at some point with two and three times the focal length used so far.

Also remember PAL 12 and 13 which are prime right now.

Max Resolution test

Posted By Anthony Ayiomamitis

Rolando,

Thanks for confirming my suspicion that 1x1 is the way to go when doing LRGB imaging and this is something which I have NEVER deviated from.

Now, I hate digressing BUT what impresses me most about this little result is the fact you have colour all over the cluster and this is something quite difficult to get when imaging globulars. Good stuff!
