It is great to see some activity on this forum! The clouds must have parted. I just got back from a week at my dark site, and had 6 clear nights in a row. Had some issues with wind and with smoke from a "controlled" burn nearby, but a very good run.

Here is M51, using a modified Nikon D50 on a C11 @f/6.3, 9 x 10 minutes and 6 x 5 min at 1600. Stacked, darks, flats, bias applied with DSS, finished in PS CS3. Thanks for looking, comments appreciated!

Things got darned exciting around here last evening! I had a half inch of rain, a little wind, and a little lightning. Within 20 miles of me, there were several tornadoes. My sister, 11 miles away from me, had hail...she sent this photo. Tennis, anyone?

In my neighbor's rose bushes. She (the bird) let me get up close for this, taken about 6 feet away with a 180mm f/2.8 Nikkor ED on a D70. I didn't have much choice in the angle, and couldn't avoid the glare on the leaves.

ISS Solar Transit

Well, that was exciting! At 9:33 CDT this morning, from my own backyard. This is a single shot, 1/4000 sec at ISO 320 with a Nikon D70, through an Orion 8" f/5 Newt with a Baader solar filter. This certainly isn't one of the best ever, but it made me happy! The transit lasted 0.75 sec.

ISS and the Moon

The ISS passed just over 1 degree from the Moon this morning, as seen from my location. I snapped one photo of it with my Nikon D70 on an Orion ED80. 1/2500 sec at ISO 640. On the full frame, the ISS is just a dot. The inset is at full resolution, and a little detail is visible. ISS was at about 90 degrees elongation from the Sun, so the solar panels would appear nearly edge-on. Thanks for looking, comments welcome!
