Re: Out of gas

Ever see how they fill your propane tank at the local TruValue? You handle the Hydrogen/LNG tank in the same fashion. Even using a secondary connection to allow you to use the cylinder to get to the fueling station is simple solution. Most people I know can handle connecting the propane cylinder to their barbeque grill without problems why would it be any harder to use the same method for your car? Last year I got stuck for 36 hours in Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. I bought a cell phone charger that used AA batteries to recharge my cell phone in 10 minutes. Not appropriate for cars, but a similar concept will work for cars You are looking for a reason NOT to switch to an alternative method of powering your car.

ocean levels

There was no such thing as the Medeival Watrm Period :S There were some VERY localized warm and cold periods in western and central Europe, but there was NO global warm or cold period. From the National Climatic Data Center the "idea of a global or hemispheric "Medieval Warm Period" that was warmer than today however, has turned out to be incorrect" and that what those "records that do exist show is that there was no multi-century periods when global or hemispheric temperatures were the same or warmer than in the 20th century".[2] Indeed, global temperature records taken from ice cores, tree rings, and lake deposits, have shown that the Earth was actually slightly cooler (by 0.03 degrees Celsius) during the 'Medieval Warm Period' than in the early- and mid-20th century.

Short list of links for newbies to read from ...

Posted By Robert Pasken

Rather than opinion (inhofe, monckton, ball, lomborg, heartland instatiture, etc and garagetv?) try getting the science from www.ucar.edu, www.ncdc.noaa.gov. This isn't a matter of pro or con it is a matter of observed data and basic physics

and Hugh please don't insult the scientists who actually do the research with the line of bovine excrement that we're in this for the money. I make less than the non-union autoworkers in Tennessee and work longer hours. I do research because it because it is good for the country and improves the lives of people who live here. Next time you fly in an airplane think of how people like me made it safe to fly in severe weather.

Interesting climate article

I read the article in Science and was impressed. As with any new hypothesis further testing needs to be done, but I thought the nanodiamonds were a unique way of tracing events.

My useless weather data

Posted By Robert Pasken

You might look into either joining DCnet (NWS managed mesonet in Maryland and Virginia) or Cooperative Weather Observer Program (COOP). I know COOP is always looking for new sites with knowledgable observers. Since I am responsible for the Missouri Mesonet I know what other mesonets are looking for. Do you record by the minute or every 30 seconds?

Milloy discusses dark skies and global warming

Posted By Robert Pasken

So not only does Steve "I don't believe in Science" Miloy not believe in the science of meteorlogy and climatology, he doesn't doesn't like astronomy either. You got to wonder why he bothers at all.

While at FoxNews.com, Milloy has criticized claims that secondhand tobacco smoke causes cancer. However, with the release of confidential tobacco industry documents as part of the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement, the objectivity of Milloy's stance on secondhand smoke has been questioned. Based on this documentation it is clear that Milloy is a paid advocate for the tobacco industry.

Milloy's junkscience.com website was reviewed and revised by a public relations firm hired by the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. Milloy also worked as executive director of The Advancement of Sound Science Coalition (TASSC), a "front group" established in 1993 by Philip Morris and its public relations firm "to expand and assist Philip Morris in its efforts with issues in targeted states." Philip Morris memos describe "utilizing TASSC as a tool in targeted legislative battles"; a 1994 Philip Morris memo listed TASSC among its "Tools to Affect Legislative Decisions". According to its 1997 annual report, TASSC "sponsored" junkscience.com.

In April 1998 Milloy was part of the Global Climate Science Team (GCST), which was founded in part by ExxonMobil to work out a strategy to influence the media to "understand (recognize) uncertainties in climate science." Milloy helped develop the GCST action plan, which involved "invest[ing] millions of dollars to manufacture uncertainty on the issue of global warming." In 2005, it was reported that non-profit organizations operating out of Milloy's home, and in some cases employing no staff, have received large payments from ExxonMobil during his tenure with Fox News. A Fox News spokesperson stated that Milloy is "... affiliated with several not-for-profit groups that possibly may receive funding from Exxon, but he certainly does not receive funding directly from Exxon."

The United States Senate Lobby Filing Disclosure Program lists Milloy was as a registered lobbyist for the EOP Group for the years 1998–2000. The guidebook Washington Representatives also listed him as a lobbyist for the EOP Group in 1996. The EOP Group's clients include the American Crop Protection Association (pesticides), the Chlorine Chemistry Council, Edison Electric Institute (fossil and nuclear energy), Fort Howard Corp. (a paper manufacturer) and the National Mining Association. Milloy himself was personally registered as a lobbyist for Monsanto and the International Food Additives Council. Milloy denies ever lobbying.

Now you have to wonder when it was revealed that Miloy is being paid by industry to spread disinformation why he would continue to contend to be an independent thinker.

Interesting climate article

Posted By Robert Pasken

It gets even better. It seems that there was a paper by Firestone et al 2007 in PNAS that arrived at nearly identically the same conclusions based on black mats, Iridium, magnetic microgranules and fullerence containing extra-terrestrial Helium found across North America. The black mats seemed to be composed of charcoal, soot and carbon sphercules. The black mats had an average thickness of 3 cm.

Good article on crime rates by race

Posted By Robert Pasken

Kinda like the corrupt conservatives who mailed out a puff-the-magic-ni***r, or maybe the corrupt foxnews that still insists that Steve Milloy is an "unbiased science reporter" even though documents from Monsanto, RJReynolds and ExxonMobil all show him on the payroll as spokesman/lobbiest right. Given a choice between a newspaper editorial (note the keyword editorial) and fauxnew that claims to be reporting news when in point of fact it is doing nothing more than reading industry PR pieces as if it were their own research, I'll take facts from a newspaper editorial

Redistribution Begins

Posted By Robert Pasken

Yes, there was a redistribution of wealth, Thain of Merrill-Lynch just gave from TARP funds his executives $15,000,000 in performance bonuses, tried to give himself a $10,000,000 performance bonus after spending $67,000 on a rug and $86,000 for a credenza in office. I didn't see you whining about AIG executives spending over a million dollars on a "retreat" at a resort after accepting TARP monies. The money that Thain paid for a rug and credenza is more than twice the assessed value of my brothers house

So you're whine is that for those who would have gotten a $1000 per child income tax credit would now actually receive a refund of $1000 per child. So the question becomes why are worried about give $1000 to some one who would spend it to pay for food, clothing housing and transportation, hence putting the money directly back into circulation AND paying local and state sales taxes, but not whining about the money that Thain, Lewis, the lawyers, mba's and financial analysts got, particularly since they a**h*les are the one who by their own greed put us in the position we are in

Watts up with the sun?

Considering the source you might give pause to your statements. You examine

or

or

for a little science. 28 years of reliable satellite observations suggests a trend of about +0.12 W/m2 in total irradiance. This is compared to 1367 w/m2 of INcoming SOlar radiaTION (insolation). Thus the trend in insolation amounts to less than 1000th of the total insolation. The paper by Friis-Christensen and Lassen (Science, 1991) which is one of the few scientific studies on the influence of changes in insolation on climates was later shown by Damon and Laut (2004) was flawed due to simple math errors
