Olbermann...

Posted By Mike Strieber

I had the extreme displeasure of stopping on Olbermann's show for 10 minutes tonight... I know, my bad. However, why is it the folks that interupt Republican town hall meetings by shouting are demonstrating democracy at it's finest yet the folks interupting Democratic town hall meetings are plants and it's a vast right-wing conspiracy? Not sure I understand that, but then again I don't understand anything Olbermann says. BTW, isn't he the leader of the Democratic Party, or is that Rick Maddow? I get the two mixed up.

Observation from the UK...

Posted By Mike Strieber

I spent the last week in Scotland on business. As I was working a helicopter flight test and the weather was horrid everyday I had an opportunity to watch the "local" news. I was surprised how in tune they were to US politics. Every broadcast I saw led with US political and economic issues. That was even during the week the UK was bamboozled by Libya and the release of the Lockerbie bomber (they were overwhelmingly against the release BTW). Anyway, it was interesting to see the take on what goes on here. I saw no indication at all of the Obama euphoria many here claim is a feather in his cap (US-Euro relations). It wasn't that negative either but certainly wasn't like our news coverage here that puts him on a pedestal.

Just an observation with no real point. smile

BTW, they did copy some things from the Obama economic plan; they have their own version of "cash for clunkers" in the UK. I assume they thought it was a good idea as well.

Vegas Real Estate

Posted By Mike Strieber

For what it's worth; the real estate market in Vegas appears to be making a turn-around. You may recall Vegas was one of the hardest hit markets in the country. Homes that were selling for 180k five weeks ago are now going for 260k. Inventory is way down and it's a seller's market. We're seeing bidding wars on homes now. I've noticed also there are fewer and fewer foreclosed homes for sale. It also appears the Vegas market may have overreacted to the down-turn. New construction nearly ceased and now there's not enough inventory to meet the demand. Interesting turn of events here in Vegas. Now for the political twist in all this; I don't believe the turn-around is as much a reflection on government intervention as it is natural free-market stabilization. Of course I'm not an economist and I'm not sure anyone could prove cause and effect for either case. Perhaps a bit of both. Regardless, it's good news for me who lost upwards of 35% the value of my house. Where I could get 270k for my 440k house a year ago it's back up around 330k-ish in the last 3-4 months. Just a tidbit of info from Sin City.

Republican Party needs an enema...

Posted By Mike Strieber

As a card-carrying Republican and moderate-conservative I am certainly discouraged by the folks the party is clinging to these days. They apparently haven't learned their lesson and will hang their hat on the same old folks and ideas that led to their near collapse. The same old folks or new clueless ones that don't belong in public office in the first place. Why people are listening to the likes of Huckabee and Palin is beyond me. It's only the policies of the Democrats that keep the Republican Party relevant. It's a sad commentary on our two party system. Keep it up Obama, you're single-handily bringing the Republican Party back.

I guess they're only bad apples under the Bush administration. Regardless of what the Iraqi government thinks.

I just have to ask...

Posted By Mike Strieber

Will anyone here actually admit to watching Keith Olbermann? I mean like sit down and watch him for an hour, nod in agreement and give your buddies high-fives for his brilliant oratory?

Harry Reid and healthcare bill...

Posted By Mike Strieber

"Harry Reid: Health care bill won’t work for Nevada..."

Of course if a Republican has issues with the bill they're idiots, don't care about the "little people", racist, or just nay-sayers. What if a Democrat has issues with it? Is Harry Reid a racist as well Mr. Carter? We already know he's an idiot.
