Review on 32mm. ERFLE

Posted By Michael Tencza

Does anyone know if there is an advantage over the 32 mm Plossl design? I believe both the erfle and plossl will provide the maximum FOV in a 1.25" eyepiece.

Beginner question about Meade 26mm plossl

Posted By Michael Tencza

I would sell the Meade and buy a 28 mm RKE. If you mess with an eyepiece the resale value becomes nil. The RKE has plenty of eye relief and I feel is a better eyepiece. Good luck.

Eyepiece recommendations

Posted By Michael Tencza

It would be helpful to know the type and specifications of your telescope, but...

Being an eyepiece collector I can tell you there are many excellent ones to enjoy at all price levels. Personally I like Televue Plossls (especially the old smoothies), University Optics volcano top abbes,BO Planetaries, and GSO Superviews (especially the 30mm which is a 2" model) in the low priced arena. If you shop the Amart Classifieds all of these can be gotten for very good prices. The Televues are more money, but I think they are worth it. The barlow is also a good idea as you instantly double your focal length choices.

Best advice is to just pick the focal lengths you would like to have and go for it. Checking all this great equipment out for yourself is half the fun of this hobby. If you buy used then you can resell what does not suit you for little loss of funds.

Ethos 17mm $750.00 ! ! !

Considering the prices people are willing to pay for Zeiss Abbe Orthos it does not sound unreasonable for what you are getting. Like everything else, for those with the means there are things available that the rest of us can only dream about.

My first Nagler

Posted By Michael Tencza

Congrats Magnus. My first Nagler, a recent purchase, was also the 13mm T6 and sure enough I bought a 9mm just a short time afterward. Now I am thinking about a 7mm. Nagleritis is a chronic and progressive disease, but not fatal.

advice on replacing grease on focuser

What kind is it? There is an excellent website authored by Pollux Chung regarding GSO dual speed crayfords if it is one of those .

Barlow

Do consider the Televue Powermates. I use a 2.5x with my Televue Plossls. I started with both the celeston ultima and Klee barlows, and but found the FOV vignetted. Others more versed in optics can tell you why.

Am I Insane or What?

Posted By Michael Tencza

My insanity must have been a temporary midlife crises. I think I will keep my Pentax XL's in the mix and enjoy them as I should.
