M27 imaged with a new brand of 4 inch apo

Posted By jeff OMeara

Hi Dietmar,

Fantastic detail for a 4 inch scope - nice job. I use an NP-101 so I am truly impressed. By the way, I know that the noise is extremely low for your camera so I understand not using darks, but why not take a couple of flats?

cheers,

Jeff

ST10XME, the right choice?

Posted By jeff OMeara

Hi Floyd,

I went from an ST-2000XCM to the ST-10XME about 6 months ago. Work, weather and wife have conspired to prevent me from using it as much as I would like, but so far I love it. The high QE is fantastic and allows me to make the most of my limited imaging time. The larger chip is nice and I am able to cool to ~40oC below ambient with mine (I guess my fan was installed correctly ?) My only issue is that dealing with the blooms can be tricky, of course this is less of an issue when narrowband imaging. I paid US $4300 for the ST-10XME, CFW8a, astrodon gen I LRGB +6nM Ha - not a bad deal. I may one day upgrade to something else (ST-11K?), but I have no regrets with my purchase.

cheers,

Jeff

Great shot Tyler. Glad to hear that you are enjoying your new scope (how could you not?) I'm hoping to get my hands on an AP scope one day too.

By the way, I noticed on your web-site that you were planning to start construction on a dome this Spring. Have you started yet?

Clear skies,

Jeff

Thanks all, I really appreciate your comments. I finally feel like the processing learning curve is not quite as steep. I'd be happier if I could more effectively deal with the blooming, but it's coming.

Clear skies,

Jeff
