Flocking a C9.25

Posted By Jay Emirzian

Hi Vincent,
Truthfully the article I wrote looks a lot harder then it really is. If you have any questions, I'd be more than happy to help you though the process. My scope wasn't carbon fiber tube, but that really doesn't make a difference. The flocking material will stick regardless. Call me if you'd like to talk about it.

Dew Not heater straps vs Kendrick?

Posted By Jay Emirzian

Ivan,
I have had both and have to say the Dew Not heater strips are more power efficient and heat more evenly then the Kendrick. I believe this is because Dew Not uses a heating tape rather then resistors. I think Kendrick has integrated the heating tape now, rather then the old style that used resistors. The wire is longer on the Dew Not then the Kendrick, but Kendrick uses a wire with silicone insulation which makes it more flexible in the cold weather. Kendrick also uses a metal RCA plug where as Dew Not's is plastic. I like the look of the metal RCA plug, but it's more practical to have a plastic end, as it is sealed from the elements better. I think the Dew Not heaters are better insulated and a bit wider then the Kendrick.

Because I had a couple of Kendrick heaters go bad on me, I sold all of them and purchased a Dew Not system. Truthfully, I would never go back. The Dew Not heaters are excellent.

17mm and 5mm Baader Hyperion

Stéphane,
Thank you very much for your words about the Hyperion's. We all have been interested in hearing how these eyepieces perform. From what you said, they seem to be top notch!

Favorite Targets at WSP

I'd have to say one object I don't want to miss this year is the peculiar galaxy in Centaurus, NGC5128 or Caldwell 77. It's a 6.7 mag. elliptical with a very evident dust lane.

Hey Ivan!!! We did see alot that night. Eta Carinae really popped out in your scope with the O3 filter. I heard alot of people mentioning this was the WSP to remember. Five great nights of observing, but I think Thursday into Friday was the best one of all. Glad you were there on the best night.

Check out the picture of that sun you were talking about Friday morning...

HELP.....Meade 4000 14mm UWA

Posted By Jay Emirzian

I couldn't help myself.........It was killing me that I never got a response from the seller and I was sitting on a boat anchor. I spread out a nice micro-fiber cloth on the desk, went to Meade's web site for a schematic, put on a pair of surgical gloves and opened er' up!!! Hmmmmmm.....what did I find, finger prints on the elements. I cleaned them up and found one element upside down and a retaining ring in the wrong place. The retaining ring explained the 4mm space. Then I set up the scope, did a quick laser alignment, popped the 14 UWA in the focuser and.......PINPOINT STARS!!!!! Wahoooooooooo!!!

So to all of you.....I can't thank you enough for your help!

HELP.....Meade 4000 14mm UWA

Posted By Jay Emirzian

Hello everyone,
I just got off the phone with the seller, he called me. Just so you all know, his name is Dennis Balassone. His reasoning for not getting back to me sooner was because he was out of the office. I explained to him the problem with the eyepiece and he immediately offered to give me a full refund. I explained to him how concerned I was because he never replied so I fixed and cleaned the eyepiece myself. He then said he would send me $50 via paypal to compensate me for my troubles. I was upset that the communication wasn't faster, but when Dennis did call me this morning he straightened everything out. Thank goodness he did the right thing.....I was starting to get very upset. >sad

I hope that people understand the importance of ALWAYS checking out their equipment before passing it on to another buyer. Its so important to keep the quality of Astromart as high as we possibly can.

Thanks to everyone who were concerned.....Its nice to know we all stick together here on Astromart. grin

Clarification on the issue of the 14mm UWA sale

Posted By Jay Emirzian

Floyd,
Let me start off by saying the reason for my post was to get help regarding the defective eyepiece I was holding. My intentions were not make accusations towards Dennis. With that said, I responded to a post to talking about “black balling” him on Astromart. I don’t think anyone deserves to be black balled and I stated that in the post. Many people had negative feelings towards Dennis and with just cause. He did in fact have two user accounts one with good ratings and one with bad.

Because of the lack of communication, I decided to reverse search his address in the yellow pages. This is when I found out he was the owner of a pawn shop. You can imagine how I felt after leaning of this. I figured I had an eyepiece I just spent $212 on that was pretty much useless and the seller was not responding to my inquiries. After a long wait, Dennis did get back to me. I mentioned this in the other thread that he immediately offered to refund my money. This is when I told him I fixed the problems. He did do the right thing by compensating me $50 for my troubles, but I never in any way said a negative remark towards him as a person. I did ask Dennis why he would sell an eyepiece that was defective. He was awair there was a problem but, he told me he though it was the seeing conditions that caused the problem in the eyepiece. Floyd…..if you could have seen how this eyepiece preformed, any novice could have seen it had a problem. Which leads me to ask the question…….Why sell something defective?

I realize there are two sides to every story. But you have to understand I am not responsible for other people’s opinions. If his name was libeled in any way, it wasn’t coming from my voice.

Regards,
Jay
