Selling to member with no rating?

Posted By Hans Tucker

Mike,

How are people going to get rated if people view the way you do. Ultimately it is your equipment your sale but there has to be a starting point for all new Astromarters that are just starting to deal in the classifieds. True there are warning signs (I thought Hotmail accounts were illegal on Astromart) with this interested party in Europe and the ultimate risk is yours. My first dealings on Astromart was with a highly rated member whom ended up selling me a an item that was poorly packed and ended up damaged when I received it. It is not the first time this highly rated Astromarter has sold defective products. So you can see it works both ways.

Tak FS 76??

Posted By Hans Tucker

Gordon,

You might want to go back and take a closer look at the scopes ID plate because something is odd. You might have mis took (although you are confident you didn't) an '8' for a '6' and the scope may actually be an FS-78.

As far as I know the FC line, which had the uncoated Fluorite element at the rear of the cell, had the following apertures: FC-50, FC-60, FC-65, FC-76, FC-100 and FC-125.

Then Takahashi got more technically advanced and installed the now coated Fuorite element at the front of the lens cell and released scopes in the FS line with the following apertures: FS-60C, FS-78, FS-102, FS-128 and FS-152.

I never have heard of a FS-76 but then I might be wrong and that wouldn't be the first time. Please let us all know what you find out because from what you describe the FL (600mm) sounds about right. The FC & FS line were f/8 scopes.

Tak Collimating Eyepiece

Posted By Hans Tucker

Sorry Brian, I know you were pitching your question in James direction but I thought I would add my 2 cents worth of Jerks advice (in tribute of Bruce's pet name for me).

In the introduction to the instructions for the use of Takahashi Collimating Scope Part Number TCE0100 it states the following: "This device is specially designed for collimating Cassegrain telescopes, Takahashi CN-212, Mewlons and refractors. However, it cannot be used on a Cassegrain instrument that employs a relay lens as part of it optical system."

Takahashi also has the Takahashi Collimating Eyepiece
Part Number TCE0020 & Takahashi Collimating Tube Part Number TCE0030 which I believe can only be used to collimate Newtonians only.

I use the Takahashi Collimating Scope TCE0100 on my Mewlon 250S.

Cheers,

Hans

I am sure other will join me in expressing our condolences to yourself and Thomas family. Even though I, like many others, did not actually know your brother I know of him from the legacy he now leaves and valued contribution to the worldwide Astronomical community that will live on.

TOA 130S vs. 130F

Posted By Hans Tucker

In a nut shell, the 2.7" focuser was pitched towards the visual observer whom doesn't really need a larger robust focuser. The TOA-130F with the 4" focuser was aimed towards the more dedicated Astrophotographer. The 4" focuser can handle the higher weight load of the imaging equipment (camera, filter wheel etc) and there is less to zero chance of vignetting with the 4" focuser. Most dedicated refractors that are used primarily for Astrophotography come with a 4" focuser (including the APOMAX I am about to purchase). Optically the TOA-130S and TOA-130F are the same.

Mewlon 300 users in this group?

Posted By Hans Tucker

Lucky sod Mahesh smile ....I can only dream of owning a Mewlon 300 but alas I have to settle for my Mewlon 250S. Either way this thread of discussion is going to be interesting.

El Capitan - AP3600 GTO

Posted By Hans Tucker

"AP1200 steps aside!"

I doubt it. The AP3600 GOTO is one serious jump both in weight and load carrying capicity that only the serious would contimplate buying a mount that can take 250lbs. I doubt that at an head weight of 203lbs that the GT3600 is portable so it's would be more an observatory mount. The AP1200 still has an important position to fulfill in the AP fleet of mounts.

Roland sure kept this puppy a secret, makes me wonder what other little secrets he is keeping in regards to product release but the new mount is really nice work.

Moon is too bright

Posted By Hans Tucker

Ken,

You can screw the filter either into the 12.5mm eyepiece (if you look at the internal of the chrome barrel on the eyepiece you will see that it is threaded)or alternately, if you are changing eyepieces regularly to vary the magnification you can screw the filter into the end of the diagonal. Likewise, the chrome barrel on the diagonal has internal threads for screwing in filters. Baader Planetarium make a Neodymium Mon & Skyglow filter in the 1.25" size. Be advised, if you are using Takahashi eyepieces or diagonal you will find that you will not be able to screw filters all the way, you can only screw filters like the Baader on by one or two threads. God only knows why there is a slight difference in the thread pitch between the Baader filters and the Takahashi eyepieces and diagonal. On a last note only view the moon as it is phasing and not when it is nearly or completely full...way to much light to show any detail and all you will get is a headache.

APO MAX 130 F/12 Refractor

Posted By Hans Tucker

Well after a 2 months wait the APOMAX finally arrived and to my luck survived intact after the long journey from Europe to Australia, FEDEX didn't disappoint in this instant. The scope is in good condition for 10 years old, the optics could do with a clean but more concerning is that I have notice a fair amount of movement in the 4 inch focuser when moving the tube side to side and up and down, I wonder if this movement can be adjusted out. Also this scope uses Nylon screws, are these still available?

I know that HT Precision Optics are no longer around but is Fred Mrozek ?
