The open space behind our home was over run with elk this evening. And it sure looks like it was a good year for babies!

These first shots are taken with a Digital Rebel (Canon 300D) at the prime focus of a TEC APO 140. I guesstimate the shutter speed and let Photoshop set the contrast later. The computer seems to get a better balance than I do when I try to manipulate these photos by hand.

The last shots were taken with the 300D and a Tamron zoom lens.

It was a spectacular evening... The herd is still out there even though it is now dark. We can hear the calves calling out now and then. grin (They squeak... sorta :S )

There were quite a few and they all settled down to rest at about 7:30 p.m.

Actually, there were more than quite a few. This rest-group had 13 calves, give or take. There were at least 10 others scattered about! (The triple grouping from the previous photo is center right.)

A brief rain shower sent me and my telescope scurrying for cover, but we were rewarded with this double rainbow. What an evening! grin

Thanks.

That is a spectacular bull Tom. I expect to see our local big boys a little later in the year.

By the way Cleve, California is a great place to visit... You will always be welcome back to Colorado, when you decide to return home. grin

(No sea otters though!)
