How / where do you do you put filter(s) in front of a 35mm body?

Thanks in advance for any help / suggestions as I'm just getting started.
The thought occurred to me as I got back my fat 4th q moon pix yesterday and the "mares" are very bright. The whole thing looks washed out compared to what I'm used to seeing here.

FWIW - I'm shooting 400spd Fuji print film in an old AE-1 on my 6" LOMO Mak. and trying to focus through the normal viewfinder. (for now)

Most T-adaptors are theaded at the barrel end to take them. I use a 2" Antares and a 2" AP T-adapter and both are theaded for 2" filters. My 1 1/4 meade t-adapter is also threaded for 1 1/4" filters too.

Why would you want to use a filter? It would seem you would be better off just using a shorter exposure. After all, would that not help with seeing?
