Hi all,

I was wondering if I could get some help figuring out which moons these are, if they are moons. Thanks in advance for your help.

Andy

The facts might change, but my opinion won't change, no matter what the facts are.

Hello Andy,

you could go to this page

http://ringmaster.arc.nasa.gov/tools/viewer2_jup.html

and input the time of the shot (universal time) and fill out the other fields and it will let you download a post script file which will show you diagram telling you what they are. You may also need a post script viewer eg Ghostscript/Ghostview to read the file. There are probably easier ways but this works for me.

good luck

Andy -

The Jupiter timeline in Sky & Telescope is a handy quick reference too. But you'll need the time and date - Io moves pretty quickly.

Assuming you took this image the night of March 2, 2004 (05:10 on March 3rd, Universal Time) then the names from left to right are Europa, Ganymede, Callisto, Io.
