M27 - D60

Hi

This was supposed to be an integration of 18 300 second exposures using a D60 but all but 6 were ruined by a hugh dust spot that covered M27. Image details are available in the caption under the image.

Again, simply amazing what you can do with that camera. How did you balance color? M27 is tricky, since it has emission lines that seldom match up well with the color profile of RGB filters. I've attached a version that balances the OIII and Ha emissions, at the cost of unbalancing some of the star colors. There really isn't a way to balance both without taking an OIII-filtered image and using it to adjust the blue/green balance (the OIII emission line falls right in the middle of most blue and green filters, and should result in a teal color when balanced).

It was as easy to balance colors from the D60, however, as it would be from images taken with a conventional CCD. It would seem that the D60 is a very good choice for deep-sky imaging.

Superb Mike... I'm champing at the bit to try out some of the new features you've put into in Images Plus v1.69!

I'm going to try a 0.8X reducer to recapture some of the punch lost in my Mak-Newt images (to the 2x Powermate used as a relay lens), but here's my best stab it it so far (14 three-minute images @ISO800 taken with a D60 through an 8" Mak-Newt w/2X TeleVue Powermate. Aligned and adaptively added with Images Plus 1.68 and tweaked with PhotoShop. Here's to hoping for crisper images with the new set up!):
