Imagingsource firewire cameras

Hi All.

I currently own a unmodified ToUCam and have done some Mars imaging during last year's opposition.

Now I am considering the Imagingsource firewire camera, specifically the monochrome 640x480 models. I've seen great images from some of the members using these camera. I would like to get some more opinions before I commit the purchase. As I've heard these cameras having lower noise than the ToUCam, how is the sensitivity compared to the ToUCAm? Is it possible or has any attempt be made to modify it for long exposure?

Thanks!

Hello Dennis,

Here is a raw frame of Saturn taken with a DMK 21F04 camera. It is at f/20 with a 12 inch LX200GPS. I only briefly experimented with this camera one night on Saturn, and I didn't really try to optimize the settings. It was late and this was just a quick shot before going to bed.

The DMK monochrome cameras are awesome on the moon. Significantly lower noise than the ToUcam. I have been meaning to give my camera a fair try on Saturn but just not have had time yet to optimize the camera settings for Saturn. The weather has not been all that great where I live for the last month.
