April 8, 2024 Solar Eclipse

We really lucked out in south central Indiana on Monday.  Nearly blue sky through the whole eclipse with maybe the slightest wisps of high cloud some of the time.  Venus and Jupiter were clearly visible a few minutes before totality, and a couple of proms shined like rubies during totality.  Very cool.  The proms are in my photos, but washed out.  I needed a couple shorter exposures.  This is a composite of a 1/350 second and a 1/45 second image with a Canon SL2 and a tiny 70 mm William Optics refractor.  I hope the weather was OK wherever you were, if you tried to see the eclipse.  Texas looked pretty dicey.

Hi Jim, great pictures! We were in SE Oklahoma near the town of Muse. Clear early, then a lot of thick clouds and then clear for the eclipse! The view of those proms in my PST was fantastic, in fact the whole eclipse through the PST was amazing. One of the prominences looked like the Eiffel tower. Seeing prominences, etc. around the edge of during totality is something I'll never forget. On the uneclipsed disk there was an almost circular filament that had a sunspot at the edge, it looked like a bubble. Of course totality with Jupiter and Venus and that amazing blue-black(?) sky was cool. I also got to visit my sister and 4 nephews and spend a few days at my friend's cabin in SE Oklahoma all made for a great trip. I hope everybody got to see it!
