This kind of thing, which (witch?) goes on in many developing countries, makes the skin crawl. But heck, God'll sort em all out in the end, right? Ain't 'real' Christians doing it. But if you read history the fake ones seem to far outnumber them.

This sort of barbarism is what happens when you let a church do your thinking. While this is the extreme far end of the spectrum of religious atrocities, we see similar, if milder, forms here and everywhere that religion or politics operates instead of thinking people. The restrictions against gays are largely driven by religious belief (Leviticus is often cited). The anti-science movement is driven by belief in a literal interpretation of the Bible as is the witch hunt in Africa. Look at the Jihadist Muslims as well, bent on killing anyone who violates their beliefs.
While religion is often a positive force in society (love your neighbor, feed the poor, etc.), it seems to be counter-balanced by medieval thought patterns that were fossilized in the Bible.

I got off that merry-go-round long ago, and it was one of the most traditional ones.

Love thy neighbor, unless he's not "one of us"

is a mentality ripping the world appart. Their are some brains amoung them, but usually more selve serving that advertised. None of whom are really interested in morality or fostering peace on Earth.

So I turned to science and phylosophy. Strangely enough, I found organized religion is just interested in organised religion, not God.

Is it unfortunate that there are more inteligent exchanges on belief here on this forum than in most other conversations I've had? Perhaps fortunate after all.

Like everything it depends on one's perspective. However, most witch hunts are rather one sided.

Thanks,
Steve
