A portion of Byrd's recent speech:

"The Bush administration's talk of weapons of mass destruction to justify the war has become more than an embarrassment."

"It has raised serious questions about the prevarication and the reckless use of power."

"Were our troops put needlessly at risk? Were countless Iraqi civilians killed and maimed when war was not necessary? Was the American public purposefully misled? Was the World?"

Mr. Robert KKK Byrd is such a grandstander. Does he EVER have anything positive say about anything?

Somebody should go through West Virginia and count up all of the roads, stadiums and other public works named for him - Mr. Pork, himself...it's just like in Iraq where everything was named after Sadaam.

I'm sure the folks in WVa love him.

a couple of thoughts:

i was -and am -totally against any action taken in Iraq without the UN's approval.

Iraq may indeed have become a major threat, but arguably one could add Syria, The Lebanon, Iran, and certain elements among (our "friends") the Yemenis, Saudis, Israelis, etc, etc... Sadaam was just the easiest target: The man everyone loved to hate.

Our actions against Iraq were indeed a wake-up call. Notably to North Korea. They really woke up -their nuke programme. They have whole new reasons to continue and expand their paranoia.

i fear that the world is no safer -indeed more dangerous -than it was before we went in. If indeed Iraq had those Terror Weapons (i will not call them WMD's -a position i've defined elsewhere,) then WHO has them now? i'm afraid that we may find that out the hard way.

i think we've just punched a Tar Baby.

Just my cents... keep the change.
