i was reading on Mark 16:17-18,

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover;

is it true that believers will get rid of the copperheads,
heal my kids' step throat,
and on top of that,
drink a glass of drano (that i'll bring) and be unscathed ?
boy,
am i anxy to go to a star party here in the south...

When I lived in southeast Kentucky years ago, I was invited to a snake-handling church. I regret not following up on that, as I'm sure it would have been interesting. Members claim to have witnessed many miracles of snake bites with people surviving, sometimes with no ill effects. Of course, herpetologists know that at least 50% of bites from copperheads and Timber rattlers are "dry bites." The snakes tend to conserve their venom which is necessary for them to obtain food. Also, most of the envenomated bites are survivable. On average, only 2% of snake bites in this country are fatal. Also, these snakes are not always as ready to bite as we expect, especially if they have been handled a lot.
