I think Herb and the crew do a wonderful job of making astromart a safe and secure site for buying and selling not only astronomy equipment but other equipment as well. Besides the astro stuff, I have bought shortwave radios, laptops here, people are solid citizens and trustworthy...
I do wish there were a way to revitalize the various astronomy forums, the increased emphasis on security has been valuable but it seems to have come at the price of a reduced participation in the forums.

I don't think the new delay is much of an incentive. Personally I wouldn't mind paying a yearly fee, but a lot of people would object. I think it's similar to most of the clubs I have belonged to. There is a core group who does all the work, a group who sits quietly doing and saying nothing, and the rest do nothing but bitch like little girls.

People have less to say when they have their names attached to it.
Guess we could start letting people use nick names and fake names. That would make it more lively

I don't think there is a real solution unless there were some way to implement separate memberships for the forums and classifieds/auctions and the forums were free. Whatever might happen, allowing aliases would be a mistake.

nice, deep political pools? seriously, why post a poll that offends any members who are politically in the minority on an issue just to titilate those in the majority? Astromart is a wonderful resource, and it needs to be protected and perpetuated. drawing attention to ideas / issues where we are not unified just divides us and weakens Astromart. it's not like the polls promote any constructive exchange of ideas between the 2 sides of any issue. and - will the majority buy more because the Astromart leadership agrees with their views? will they buy enough to make up for those who have left Astromart - and atwb - because of the polls? ernie spragg fresno ca

For a sample of that value proposition, take a peek in the "Enter the Mall Ninja" thread in the Guns & Hunting Optics forum 8O
