Statement by the President of CBS News, Andrew Heyward:

"We established to our satisfaction that the memos were accurate or we would not have put them on television. There was a great deal of corroborating evidence from people in a position to know. Having said that, given all the questions about them, we believe we should redouble our efforts to answer those questions, so that's what we are doing."

(Emphasis mine)

Note how CBS is trying to shift the debate from "authentic" to accurate. They started doing this a couple of days ago. Does the whole gist of this statement read to you like an admission that the memos are bogus? What a fun spectacle!

It appears that some of the memo's may be bogus, but the facts are not.

It is becoming VERY CLEAR that Bush ignored a direct order to take his flight physical.

The secretary for Bush's commanding officer said that she does not think that the memo's are authentic, but she is sure that the information that they contain is accurate. She is certain the Bush violated a direct order to take his flight physical. Her memory is accurate on this subject because it is almost unheard of for any military officer to disobey a direct order. She went on to say that it is clear that Bush did not think that the rules applied to him. Even in the "flying club" for the rich and famous he was above the rules.

The secretary is a very well spoken 86 year old woman who was very clear on the facts.

There are only 10 kinds of people who understand binary - those that do and those that don't
