Scaremongering

A dirty bomb in one of our large ports is set off. It kills some people in the port and contaminates a larger area. A million people will panic, grab some family and a few items, and try to leave town. Gridlock. Violence. Where will they go if they make it out of town? The ports will be shut down. Panic buying will empty the stores. Goods and services will not be available. Total civil disorder in a large city? Hundreds die. Thousands? People will be screaming for a response. Politicians will shoulder their way to a camera talking tougher than the last one and will give them one. If enough Americans were killed the military response could be large.

I understand a dirty bomb is not that difficult. Still, is this just scaremongering?

The whole point of terrorism is scare-mongering. However, if a nation is simply a group of people banded together for mutual defense, then a successful attack tends to shake the foundations of society a bit. After all, if there is one successful strike, who says there can't be more?

Scaremongering? Maybe, but if people know what to expect then maybe we can strategise as to a proper response to such an event. Look at New Orleans. I bet they have much better procedures in place if another hurricane strikes. I used to live within 10 miles of a Nuke Plant. They used to send out these little pamphletes to inform the public about what to do in case of a nuclear emergency. Hopefully they are wasting the paper and such a thing never happens, but what if...
But also, there are unscrupulous polititions (republicans and democrats alike) that capitalise on peoples fears and use them to get elected. If the unspeakable happens while these scumbags are in office, lets just hope that they can put thier money where thier mouth is.

P.S. I am a registered Independant beacause I believe that the problems we face today arer a result of BOTH major political parties. NOBODY IS PERFECT.
