Money talks

Will Rogers said "America has the best politicians money can buy."

Take a look see where the money comes from this election came from for this election cycle and where it goes.

Amazing.  And some, who place bets on both sides about equally. You can also see how the money is spent, either for or against a candidate. Although I have not an analysis, it looks like most of the money is used against candidates, rather than for them (because negative ads work).

Two entities, controlled by one man, contributed more than $88 million dollars to the Republican cause.
That's more than ten percent of the TOTAL amount contributed to Republicans. You think they don't return his calls or give him special treatment?

Another single entity controlled by one man contributed about $42 million to Democratic causes or candidates-around five percent.

So much for one man, one vote.

Today, I wonder what Rogers would say. Probably something like "We want a refund because the rest of us didn't get what they richest people paid for."

He was number 11, far down the list, with a paltry 16 million-about 1/5th of Adelson's contribution of almost 90 million to the Republicans, who made up the top two.

But, he makes a good target to go after for Trump's base. That's why he got the honor of being a target of the MEGABomber.

It's the buying of America. I'm not picking sides on who gets the most money as it corrupts both sides.

But, it's the Republicans who refuse to consider any type of Campaign Funding reform, and the Sup. Ct, in the Republican vs. Democrat decision 5-4, in Citizen's United, that continues this travesty.

It would be great if they passed a law that says you can't contribute to any federal or state candidate unless you are a person who can vote for that person.

That would then mean those who get elected actually would be responsive to those who elected them, instead of those that paid to get them elected.

But it also means it would likely take a Constitutional Amendment, and that's never going to happen. The ship will sink way before then.

A few years ago I was given pointers on the constitution when I said our elections would be much better if we eliminated political ads on tv. Most of the money goes to those ads. It would make a huge difference.

Or, if people would turn off the TV!

The politician that buys the most tv wins, usually.
On the other hand, this would not cause people to suddenly start reading.

The left doesn't want to offer up right to work, where  shop workers don't have to pay into the Union coffers.

Reason is that they are perfectly happy forcing a worker to have no choice in whether or not they pay into unions, which just funnel the money into the Democrat Political Machine.

No, they just have their little secret methods of getting financed.

Not to mention the GIANT one, Planned parenthood, that big CON that the left LOVES.

The taxpayers get to pay 1/2 a BILLION Taxpayer dollars into PP, which then funnels that money back to the DNC.  98% of their political contribution goes to the Democrat party.  2% goes to Republicans.

Neat little trick there.

So it really ISN'T the way you characterize it now is it?  Its not just that the Repubs are against Campaign Finance Reform.

The Dems model would exempt unions and PP.

Pretty slick.  Guess you didn't know that eh?

Now then, since you are so concerned about Campaign Finance Reform, you are ready to eliminate the taxpayer funding of PP, Correct?

After all, you are honest aren't you?

Since the year 2000, PP has donated $25 Million to the Democrat party.

Glad to see they are NON-partisan as they claim..  shocked

https://jtf.org/follow-the-money-planned-parenthood-donated-25m-to-democrats-since-2000/

P.S.  Let's not forget the Teacher's union which contributes mightily to the DNC and candidates.

https://www.npr.org/2011/03/02/134203177/why-unions-matter-to-democrats-its-not-just-money

You're ready right, no more union money, no more PP money to the DNC.

Well, maybe you are, but your party leadership sure isn't,

So your statement singling out Repubs as being against campaign finance reform, is just slightly Disingenuous, don't you agree?
100%. Well, let me say, not disingenuous, but probably flat out wrong. I'm not one to never admit when I'm wrong.

Poor Koch Industries, the perennial boogey-man for the left, didn't even make the top 20....

"Money talks"?

Yes it does. Unfortunately the only thing mine ever says is "Goodbye". :-(

Here is the funny thing Jim. The top two contributors are Las Vegas Sands and Adelson Drug Clinic or in other words Sheldon and Miriam Adelson. Sheldon Adelson is the child of Eastern-Europen Jewish immigrants, much like Soros. Sheldon's parents are from the Ukraine and Lithuania, whereas Soros' parents are from Hungary. The irony, of course, is that the perennial boogeyman for the right that is Soros has a similar background to who should be the boogeyman for the left, Adelson. Why Adelson is not more well-known and vilified I do not know, but he clearly wins when it comes to influencing politics via big money. Heck, Soros pales in comparison to the new up-start Tom Steyer even.
