Hello,
An organization called Project Honduras (www.projecthonduras.com) is preparing the first Copan International Star Party. This event would take place near the Mayan city ruins of Copan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copan), a World Heritage Site, located in western Honduras, 12 kms from the border with Guatemala. The area is well serviced by numerous hotels that tend to tourists from all over the world, local and international cuisine restaurants, sight-seeing expeditions, internet cafes, museums, etc.
Copan city is a two-hour drive from from the northern Honduran city of San Pedro Sula, which in turn is a two-hour flight away from Miami, Florida. The area is known for its dark skies and fair weather. Given the combination of tourism/sight-seeing and astronomy activities, it appears to be an event that could draw interest from international amateur astronomers. I'd like to gauge interest in such an event, and I'd be interested in hearing from all interested parties.
You can learn more about Copan and the Mayan civilization here:

thanks,
Francisco
