Looks like I'll be living in the Columbus area for the next few years. Are there any Buckeye star parties?

Look up the Columbus club that meets at Perkins Observatory. I had the opportunity to see a Saturn Opposition with them a few winters ago......Nice folk.

There's a star party relatively close to you (~3 hours) near Pittsburgh. Check out www.lhstarcruise.org

I think around June the Miami Valley Astro Soc
puts on "Apollo Rendezvous" in Dayton. I guess
its more like a convention; theres stargazing
at some park outside the city if its clear.

Mark,

I guess I am the only guy to respond to you who actually lives in Ohio! Welcome to the Buckeye state, and congrats to your Texas Longhorns football team. But you're gonna have to get used to hearing about the Buckeyes in the Fall.

I can't answer your question about star parties - I've never been to one. Big ones aren't real common around here, although most of the clubs in Ohio have monthly public stargazes.

Ohio is not quite astronomy hell, the skies are pretty good from April to September. But it's certainly not like the desert southwest.

From Columbus, you will probably need to head southeast on US33 or northeast on I71 to find dark skies. I do pretty well here among the farms in western Ohio. And do visit the Perkins Observatory only about 10 miles north of I270 on US 23.
