This is a crater on the asteriod Vesta (showing multiple smaller craters inside it). The large crater is hard to pick out visual, since the edges of the crater practically fit the circumference of the asteriod. The crater is 460 kilometers wide. Vesta has a mean diameter of 529 kilometers (Vesta is not quite spherical: 564 x 531 kilometers). So the crater represents an impressive portion of the asteroid’s over all physical size. The crater is about 13 kilometers deep, with an 18 kilometer high central peak.
One has to assume the crater was not caused by the impact of something smashing into Vesta, since that would simply destroy Vesta rather than leaving a crater.
