Central Michigan U.P.

I'm going to be taking a short trip to the Munising area in a couple of weeks and was wondering if anyone knows of a decent observing location that's not too far away.

The S&T club directory didn't show anything nearby. I was hoping that maybe someone knows if there are any parks or other facilities that are traditionally astro-friendly.

If the wind is not up, try west of town along the lake shore. There are some spots that have some drop from the highway that would shield you from the lights of cars on M-28. There are also some hills right on the southwest side of town, if you could find a spot up there you could see just about the whole universe! Good luck.

Maybe along the lake west of town or around Au Train, anywhere west along the Lake should be good until Shot Point where you might begin to get sky glow from Marquette to the west. I don't know if there's any open areas along the road to Chatham. (I think you'll find Capella never sets over the Lake, I noticed this camping in the Porcupine Mountains this summer).
