Date- 9-1-05
Location- Lafayette,CA
Equipment- XT8, 0-111, 17mm Lanthanum, 9mm MA Meade
Class Skies-5
I was outside watching the Venus/Jupiter conjuction when I noticed that the skies were pretty steady. I waited for about 30 minutes, and the skies had darkened. I could see the Milky Way in Aquila, Cass. and Cygnus. I decided to spend my time in the Delphinus/Aquila region.
Here are my notes:
Eyepiece-9mm MA Meade
NGC 7006
Very Planetary nebula like. Creates a nice "looking through" effect. With averted could see some irregularites in brightness. Stellar like at center. Very small. No stars resolved.
NGC 6712/IC1295
Eyepiece- 9mm MA Meade/17mm Lanthanum
I really wish the PN didn't need an O-111. It would be nice to enjoy these two in one field without the other sginificantly dimmed. Could see quite a few stars with the 9mm in the globular. It was much larger than 7006. Some of the brighter stars popped in and out of vision, created a pearl on a pillow effect. With the 17 it was circular, with no irregularities and no stars resolved
The PN was very circular. It looked fainter on the left side. Rather large. No color.
I'm going to Mt. Diablo for some darker skies this Sat. I'll let you know how it goes.
