Geminid asteroid storm?

Hi, tonight's the big night. I just stepped out and saw one right away! Who knows, this shower is actually tiny pieces of asteroid "3200 Phaethon", maybe it will turn into a storm instead of just a shower, or wouldn't it be something if a small section of it were to hit the Earth or the Moon, anything is possible. I'm planning to watch. cheers, Dan 8O

Over here it was REALLY CLOUDY, so no go... :S

I was watching the infrared satellite images like a hawk to see if the weather would clear. A bit before midnight I saw that it was going to clear so I grabbed my sleeping bag and drove a dark site about 45 min. away. The weather cleared right on time and it was super clear at the site (M33 visible naked eye). I counted 320 meteors from 12:15 am to 4:15 am. From 1:30 to 2:30 I saw 120 of them. Most were fairly faint, probably about 25 of them were brighter than Mars and about 6 or 7 left smoke trails that were visible for a short time. Definitely one of the better showers I've seen since the last good Leonids storm.

I counted 105 with about ten being brighter than Mars. #23 and #57 were both at least a magnitude brighter than Mars. I was surprised to see so many with partly cloudy skies but it was still worth the possible frost bite. Not fireballs though. I saw one not to long ago at dusk that lasted a good 7-8 seconds and went from horizon to horizon burning green and breaking apart. Easily a -5 or so since it was easily seen at dusk. Definitely an awe inspiring sight... Almost ran off the road while watching it!
