Truss Size

Would 1.25" aluminum tubing be good for a typical truss scope design? Would a larger diameter be needed?

That depends upon your definition of typical.

In THE BOOK ; The Dobson Telescope by Kringe & Berry, 1.25 inch tubes are not required till you get up to a 20 inch mirror. 14.5 in. to 17.5 scopes would only require a one-inch tube set. 14 and smaller can get buy with 7/8 of an inch.

Thinner mirrors and innovative construction methods and materials, have lightened up the total assembly enough to allow quite a few amateur scope builders to use truss tubes smaller than recommended by K & B.
