Hi, all:
I went observing last night, and I wanted to post the results of my dew shield. As you can see from the picture, I have a table that is bolted to the rocker box. On the table is a box for storage. It has a piano hinge that folds down, and a red LED light on top to light the table.
The cover worked wonderfully. Skies were great until about 11 o'clock, and then the dew started to settle. By 2AM everything was soaking wet, except everything under my cover. The cover did not act as a wind vane, much to my relief. In addition, many laughed when they noticed that--if you look inside the box--I have two speakers and a CD player. Now Enya et al. travels around with me! I wedged foam above and below the speakers, with a gap to the side of the box. I saw no vibrations whatsoever when I had the music 3/4 volume, which could be heard many feet away. People came over wondering where the Lord of the Rings music was coming from, and about fell over when they realized it was coming from the scope!
It was also my first real test of my new DenkII and my 16 T5 Nags....oh, dear lord. When the sky was good, I had a line seven deep. There is truly nothing like two eyes.
I'll post a more comprehensive evaluation of the DenkII on the binoviewer group soon.
Also, for those talking about a split-tube design, notice the latche just below the sky commander. Mine is one as well, and I've have very little problem with allignment. It makes things sooooo much easier to transport. You won't regret doing it.
Best,
