HDPE for Telescope Tubes?

Greegings all,
I've just been introduced to 1/2" High Density Polyethylene plastic sheeting for another application. It cuts easily, is remarkably rigid and comes in black! Can any tell me if this amazing material has been tried for telescope tubes or even for dobsonian rocker boxes, bases, etc?

Thanks.

How heavy is it? Most of the pvc type tubing that I have seen in the larger sizes is pretty heavy stuff.

Standard HDPE (in fact, polyethylene in general) has two major shortcomings as a structural material:
1) it is practically un-glue-able
2) it is not resistant to UV-induced degradation

"UV-stabilized" polyethylene *is* available at slightly higher costs.

Best wishes.

It weighs about 3/4 as much as standard PVC so it would be limited to similar size applications (short tubes no larger than 4 or 5 inches in diameter).
