I was worried that it would have the ho hum or mediocre performance of most terrestrial spotters. In fact it has the color correction and star test of a Takahashi Fluorite. I am using the Baader zoom, that is 1/3 the price but apparently equal in performance to the Zeiss zoom. And considering I acquired this refurb unit at 699 instead of 1899US, in perfect like new condition, except for the box, I am very happy with this scope!

Doug,

You were lucky to get a Diascope that good. I've tested eight of them and only one star tested about as well a Tak SKY90. Two were outright lemons with the usual spotting scope defects; coma, astigmatism, pinched optics.

Can I ask where you found a refurb for such a good price?

Doug: How high did you push the magnification?

Currently a refurb from the same source is 1000 dollars more, so someone may have oopsed and dropped the most significant digit in the online listing.
