I tried a TV76 for a couple hours at Stellafane once.
It was a demo unit from TeleVue. I was very impressed
by the optical quality and color correction.
Very nice scope! But I did not test side-by-side
with other scopes.

Another alternative are various scopes using the
TMB designed "Super-APO" triplet lens in
either 80/480 or 80/600 configuations. Some
versions of these sold by APM can be un-screwed
in the middle to make even shorter scope to
pack in suitcase, etc. A segment of the tube
can also be deleted for use with binoviewer.
Both of these are superb. The 80/600 configuration
has flatter field and a better color correction;
I would recommend it highly. With Feather-Touch
focuser it will be hard to beat.

But as general comment, I would say this aperture
range is not so exciting for planets. To get good
details on Jupiter (festoons, etc.) 100mm on up
is recommended. Probably you can put 76mm
cardboard aperture on your favorite scope and
see how planets look.
