How does Yuri produce a 140mm f7 oil spaced triplet apo with 3.5" Feathertouch for $4750 when all of the other premium apo makers usually charge $6K for a 130 f6?? is it harder to produce the smaller lens at f6 than the larger one at f7 ??? or are their other factors to consider ??

I suspect volume has something to do with it. TEC produces the APO140 in much higher quantities than their other apo models, which are priced more in line with competitors. Yuri found a real sweet spot with the 140ED.

I'm sure there are other factors, but I understand an f7 objective is easier to figure than an F6 one.

The TEC scope is oil spaced, which is easier to produce. Plus they may, (and I say may, since I don't know) be choosing to use an all spherical design and/or
use the oil spacing to lessen the need to fully polish the surfaces that conract the oil. For an explanation of all this, see the following website:

As far as Markus & company, he charges what the market will bear, which is good since it insures ample supply of the product, but I am sure the air spaced design of the TMB's has something to do with the high cost. Again, see the link I have provided.

Yes its more difficult to produce a lens at F6 than at a longer focal length and yes its more difficult with larger diameters. Another factor that needs attention is a way to ensure the centering of the elements stay where they are supposed to and at all temperatures.
From what I know about the 140 TEC which is definately one of the finer APO's easily on a par with the AP scopes. TEC is apparently using test plates to ensure uniformaty on all surfaces and everything is polished to as high degree as is possible.
I've looked through many of TEC's Maksutovs and if they maintain the same standards with their Apo's as they do with the Maks and from what I've read they do their is not going to be a problem. Since they are located in the USA any problems that do turn up can be easily solved. I have never heard of a lemon coming out of TEC nor any unsatisfied customers.
Even though I own several AP refractors a 130 F6 and 155 F7 I'm still considering a 140 TEC just to say I have one
