Just bought a new Orion 120 refractor (1000mm focal length). It came with 2 Plossil eyepieces (10mm and 25mm) I need an image erector and more power. Do I go with a barlow lense or a smaller focal length eyepiece? I want good image quality. Any recommendations including what image erector to buy? How good are the original eyepieces? Thanks. New to the reflector game.

Thanks Kenny, I am really asking for two different devices. I am going on vacation and wanted something to erect the image. I also want higher power than the 100 that came with the 10mm eyepiece. I was wondering should I get the 2X barlow (and which one) or should I get a high quality eyepiece to yield 200X or a little more. I guess I don't know how good the eyepieces are that came with the scope. I was going to use the image erector with the 25MM eyepiece that came with the scope.

It has generally been my opinion that you will get better images by using a higher power (shorter focal length) eyepiece, rather than using a Barlow. Reason: fewer air-to-glass surfaces to cause distortions, limit light transmission, etc. Flip side: expense of new eyepiece, short eye relief. For these reasons, a lot of people disagree with me, but I prefer to use a short focal length E.P. rather than a Barlow.
If you know anyone who has one or the other, try them in your scope and see which you prefer.
