Hey guys, how you doing??? Well, i need your opinion on purchasing a new scope, and i´m having some dificulties choosing the right one!! I´ll explain: i own a Intes MK 66 deluxe maksutov mounted on a Celestron CG5 and i want to buy a apochromatic refractor but, one that makes real diference to my mak!!I saw one on the website of telescope service (www.telescope-service.com )that maybe could fill my needs, the Astro-Professional 130mm Apo Triplet; i know that a Takahashi, a TMB , Tele-vue or another this level would definetly be the correct one, but i didn´t wanna spend so much money!!So, suggestions....Thanks

Emanuel:

THere are a variety of ways a telescope can make a real difference to another telescope. So first I ask, what differences are you looking for?

The two scopes you mention are quite similar in aperture so there would probably not be a lot of difference when observing at high magnifications when the MAK has reached thermal equilibrium. Some of the differences one would expect are the refractor's wider field of view, quicker cool down and over all simplicity.

Hi Emanuel,
I also have the MK66 on a CG-5. If the cool doown time and somewhat narrow field of view does not bother you I suggest you hang on to the Intes MK66. Getting a noticable better performance I think, not sure though, you have to move up to a 6" apo.
All I can refer to is my 8"f/6 Orion Optics UK Newton and that scope outperforms the MK66 on DS, planets, binaries, well everything celestial.

Anyway, Good Luck whatever you decide to do wink
