I have a very nice tamron 20x60 catadioptric zoom spotting scope which I use mostly on land but is great for viewing the moon and even some imaging thru.I am interested buying a refractor for the same purpose,ie imaging on land such as birds to bears with the capability to be mounted on an eq mount for some astrophotography. It has to be very portable as it would mostly be used while camping. Is something like the stellarvue nighthawk to be considered for both land and astro? thanks in advance. doug

I OWN A STELLARVUE NIGHTHAWK AND USE IT FOR VISUAL AND ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY. THIS IS ONE SCOPE I WILL NEVER GET RID OF. IT HAS MY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.........GREAT PRODUCT AND THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE YOU'LL EVER EXPERIENCE.

Doug:

The Nighthawk is a reasonable scope visually but it is an Achromat so the false color can be a problem, particularly at higher magnifications during the day.

These days, one does not need to be satisfied with an Achromat as there are quite a few ED/APO scopes (including ones sold by StellarVue) available at quite reasonable prices. Particularly for Photography, an APO makes a real difference.
