I just received a message from a friend in Japan and figure it is worth pasing along. It is in Japanese so a translation would be helpful:

"Pentax will stop to make telescopes.

http://www.pentax.jp/japan/news/announce/20081205.html

But eyepieces will continue."

Doesn't Pentax make objectives for other Japanese 'scope companies?

[I]"Pentax will stop to make telescopes.

The future of apo refractors appears to be moving in the direction of fewer premium brands and a lot more inexpensive “Planet Killer” refractors mostly outsourced to low cost high volume optical shops.
