Intane Optics "Beware" Do not buy!!!!

Bought BN 8" F9 OTA from a dealer with a 8" F9 Intane
achromatic optic. While I know the limitations of a
scope like this, I expect it to have excellent performance
within those limitations. Well this optic sucks as it suffers
from astigmatism that is seen at well below 100x, and they
state they will not replace it and send their apologies that
they know how I feel!! Are you kidding me!?!?!?
This was in the BN scope set up at NEAF, and I am the original owner.
I know other people with similar scopes that perform superbly and know what they are capable of. Their excuse was that they only guarantee 1/2 wave optics and that they never claimed their lenses "do not" have astigmatism.

What a joke!! >sad

I forgot to ad, I am being done right by the dealer, no problem there! Just the fact that I wanted this scope to be right, and they "Intane" totally refused and basically
said the boat anchor is yours, enjoy!

That's just flat wrong shocked Such a beautiful instrument. That's horrible customer support from Intane! I wonder if they realize how this is going to affect their future sales. I almost bought my lens from them just to save some bucks. Thanks for the warning.

I was seriously considering an 8 inch F-9 that Astronomics was offering at NEAF.
I really wanted it, and thought it would be a great scope for star parties and public viewing sesions. But I had to be very honest with myself. How often would I use a big scope like an 8 inch refractor. And would it realy show any more than my excellent C11...
I ended up buying the TMB130 as I knew I would use it much more often.
After reading this post I am so glad I made the decision that I did.
Thank you so much for sharing this information, and letting us know how Intane deals with complaints. You may have saved much heart ache for your fellow astronomers.

Hi Bobby,

For what it's worth, I have an 8" f6 lens from Intane. I did an auto-collimation Ronchi image of the lense, and while not perfect, was very reasonable for the type of wide field viewing I was planning. About 100x is as high as I go. It is one of my favorite scopes for dark skies.

Although I did not have a problem, your experience makes one think twice about any future deals.
